MasterClass deal: Buy one membership, get one free

With over 100 tutorials, MasterClass makes a high-class gift for the curious cat on your list.

David Watsky Senior Editor / Home and Kitchen
David lives in Brooklyn where he's spent more than a decade covering all things edible, including meal kit services, food subscriptions, kitchen tools and cooking tips. Since earning a BA in English from Northeastern in Boston, he's toiled in nearly every aspect of the food business, including as a line cook in Rhode Island where he once made a steak sandwich for Lamar Odom. Right now, he's likely somewhere stress-testing a blender or researching the best way to make bacon. Anything with sesame is his all-time favorite food this week.

Many home bartenders would welcome a class in mixology.

MasterClass

If you've been seeking a little "elective" learning like cooking classes with Gordon Ramsay, photography taught by Annie Leibovitz or even some magic with Penn & Teller, MasterClass is the only place you're going to find all of it. It's a streaming service offering instruction from world-renowned experts in their fields and it's serving up a BOGO offer on subscriptions right now.

A one-year subscription normally costs $180, but right now, when you buy one for yourself, MasterClass will throw in a second membership for free to give to someone you think might enjoy lively and informative presentations by the likes of Anna Wintour, Jane Goodall, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Ken Burns and roughly 100 others.

Your subscription affords unlimited access to the MasterClass library, which includes more than 110 classes covering topics including business, writing, fashion and culinary arts. Each class includes an average of 20 lessons of around 10 minutes each.

This makes an excellent gift for someone with a curious spirit or whom you don't see often, since you can take the same classes and discuss your findings -- or eat your expertly prepared BBQ -- together over Zoom.

Take note, however, that the service automatically renews unless you cancel, so do add a reminder to your calendar for this time next year, so you can decide whether you want to continue before being billed.
