Why You Can Trust CNET Huge Apple Watch sale at Walmart, including the Series 3 GPS and Cellular for $229 (Update: Expired)

Think you missed your chance to score Prime Day-level Apple Watch deals? Think again. For a limited time, and while supplies last, Walmart has the Apple Watch Series 3 GPS and Cellular 42mm in black for $259 shipped -- a full $160 off the current Apple price and the lowest I can recall seeing. Note that CNET may get a share of revenue from the sale of the products featured on this page.
If you don't mind a slightly smaller screen (I don't -- it's what I use), you can also get the Apple Watch Series 3 GPS and Cellular 38mm model for $229.
Meanwhile, the GPS-only Apple Watch Series 3 38mm is back down to $199 (a price matched at Amazon), while the 42mm is back to $229 -- prices that had been pretty consistent during the first half of 2019, but haven't been seen for the last month or two. (Note that the latter may be out of stock by the time you read this, as it shows "only 2 left!" at this writing. Indeed, with prices like these, I expect rapid sellouts across the board.)
Even with discounts as steep as these, I can't mention the Apple Watch without also mentioning the Amazfit Bip, which continues to sell for around $80. I like it primarily for time-telling and notifications, but as a fitness tracker it offers features like a step-counter, heart-rate monitor and even GPS. And its battery life is utterly spectacular -- literally weeks, depending on how you use it. Check out Lexy Savvides' recent Apple Watch-versus-Bip comparison for more.
Still, the Bip is not what I would call a fitness powerhouse. If you want something that's pool-friendly and phone-capable, something that can store music and stream it to your favorite Bluetooth headphones, you need this here Apple Watch. Whether you value that stuff or not, the fact remains this is a $409 watch on sale for $259 -- and that makes it something to consider.
While you're considering, be sure to check out this roundup of great cheap accessories for your new Apple Watch. Because after you've spent this much, the last thing you want to do is pay a premium for extra watch bands.
