Top 5 live TV streaming services
These are the top five live TV streaming services as of right now.
Technically these things are called over the top internet television services.
That jargon filled name just means getting TV service through the internet.
So, which one is worth your money?
We consulted with CNET editor, David Katzmaier to find out.
And number 5 is YouTube TV.
Let's look at the positives first.
It's got a very good cloud DVR.
You get unlimited free storage with shows expiring after nine months.
On the other side, YouTube TV is limited to just five major cities with more cities coming eventually.
On top of that, if you wanna watch YouTube TV on your actual TV You better have a Chromecast.
You'll need to send the video over from your phone, tablet, or computer to your Chromecast for that.
At number four is DirecTV Now.
It's got a great channel lineup.
It also is available on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, mobile devices, and now it's hit the Roku.
But where's that Cloud DVR?
That's right, it doesn't exist.
If you want to watch something after it airs hopefully it's on DIRECTV NOW on demand service.
Number 3 is SLING TV.
Cath says this is the best value and the most A la carte of the bunch.
The lowest cost service is $20 per month.
From there you can add extra packages like sports or comedy for $5 per month each.
Sling TV does have a Cloud DVR option, with 50 or 100 hours of storage, with no expiration.
But the feature does not work on every device, and the DVR functionality does not work on all channels.
Coming in at #2 is Hulu Live TV.
Let's talk about the downside upfront, the price.
It's expensive at $40 per month.
If you want to get the cloud DVR option that allows you fast forward commercials, that will cost you another $15 per month.
However, you also get Hulu on demand, which they really Strong feature.
Hulu's live TV service is also available anywhere in the US.
And the number one live TV streaming service is Playstation View.
It's got a great channel line up, it's cloud DVR has unlimited storage Storage capacity, and it has commercial skipping on every channel.
Recordings do expire after 28 days though.
The PS Vue's home page works a lot more like Netflix, with its collection of thumbnail images showing off programs.
It's also really easy to find things to watch by filtering items by genre, rating, and even by content length If you're wondering why the rankings on this video don't exactly line up with our current scores on the site, I have been given a message from the big Katz.
Quote, I'm overdue updating everything, end of quote.
Anyway, just know, that this is a very competitive space.
So rankings can change.
Also, if you wanna see how the channel lineups compare, you've gotta check out CNET.com for the charts to end all charts.
