Police in Indian state Karnataka arrested an admin after a member of the group shared an image of India's prime minister that had been photoshopped to look "ugly and obscene."
The arrest comes hot on the heels of a ruling in India that aims to curb the spread of false information. The ruling had directed that admins are responsible for offending posts and will be liable for said posts.
WhatsApp is immensely popular in India, with about 96 percent of smartphone users using the app.
WhatsApp did not directly respond to a request for comment.
