Twitter's Moments can now be made by everyone

Itchin' to stitch together a collection of tweets to tell a tale? Now you'll be able to, as Twitter has started making its Moments feature available to all users of the social network.

"Creators everywhere can now tell stories with tweets," Twitter said Wednesday in -- what else? -- a tweet, clarifying in another that the expanded feature is "rolling out" today on Twitter's website and "coming soon" to mobile devices.

Launched last October, the Moments feature uses hand-picked tweets, videos and images to track in real time events like breaking news, concerts and sports.

Clicking to the section on Twitter takes you to a kind of table of contents with various Moments on display. Click your Moment of choice and you arrive on a page that lets you scroll through the collected tweets and imagery (or swipe through them, if you're on your smartphone).

Moments were originally created only by editors and a small group of publishing partners. But last month Twitter began letting a broader group of influential people and brands start whipping them up, and it announced plans to open the feature to everybody. Prior to today's expansion, if you wanted to create such a collection of tweets, you had to turn to third-party software like Storify.

You make your moment by clicking the "Create new Moment" button on your profile page. That takes you to a tool where you name your Moment and gather your tweets. You can choose from the tweets you've liked, search by account or keywords, or simply add a tweet's URL. Then you set a cover image, pulling it from one of the tweets or uploading it yourself.

Once you're done, you can tweet your Moment out to friends and followers. Twitter may also feature some of these user-created collections in the Moments section, a spokesperson told Variety.
