Apple Pay sees problems as users get charged twice

Culture
Apple Pay isn't perfect. Some users are dealing with double charges and annoying apps. I'm Bridget Carey, and this is your Cnet Update. [MUSIC] If you've been using Apple Pay tied to a Bank of America account, you should check your bank statements. Some bank of America users are reporting that they are being charged. Charged twice when they Apple Pay in stores. That includes CNN reporter Samuel Burke, who reports that he was charged twice for multiple Apple Pay transactions made with his Bank of America card at Whole Foods and at a drugstore. In Burke's report, Apple said they couldn't help him because they keep no record of any transactions for security purposes. Bank of America did refund his duplicate charges. Sources familiar with the matter have told me that the double charge bug isn't due to Apple's wireless payment technology. Rather the glitch is tied to the technology used by Bank of America's network providers. And it's expected to be resolved soon. When reached for comment, Bank of America said, all duplicate charges will be refunded. We apologize for the inconvenience and are correcting this immediately. Apple hasn't commented on this bug, as of this report. Some users also complain of poor design for some in app purchases. For example the Target app only lets you pay for one item at a time. When you use Apple Pay to make a purchase with your fingerprint. In other news Google has created a whole new email app. Gmail still exists but this new app is called Google Inbox. In this design similar types of emails are lumped together. Such as emails about store promotions or social media alerts. It's similar to the categories you see in Gmail, but there are more types of bundles now and you can create your own. It's like having email automatically sort itself into folders. If deleting email takes up too much time, inbox takes a different approach. Just click the emails you want to keep and one tap deletes the rest from a category. The message previews offer a quick glance at attached photos or you can see the arrival time for your package delivery or the status of your flight. Inbox is also a reminder tool. Send yourself to do reminders to show up at the top of your inbox. Google is slowly rolling this out with select invitations and new users can invite their friends. You can ask for an invitation by emailing inbox@google.com. Google also has a new way to entering your password for its services. You may know about two-step authentication. It's when you log into a computer for the first time and you can have a code sent to you as a text message and that code is your second layer password. But instead of entering in a number code, you can just stick a USB thumb drive into your computer to prove it's really you logging in. This is known as a security key, and you can buy a compatible one at Amazon for 18 dollars. Make sure it says Fido U2F ready. That's your tech news update, and you can get more details at cnet.com. From our studios in New York, I'm Bridget Carey.
