David Duchovny tears up over 'fantastic' new 'X-Files' script
The script is out there. David Duchovny tells Entertainment Weekly he got emotional when reading the initial script for "The X-Files" reboot, and says he'd be open to multiple seasons.
Worried about whether Fox's reboot of "The X-Files" will be any good? David Duchovny himself has some reassuring words.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Tuesday, the actor who plays FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder in the series said the new script is "fantastic." Several of the main characters from the original series, which ran from September 1993 to May 2002, are back for the new six-episode miniseries, and seeing those familiar names on the first few pages of the script literally brought Duchovny to tears.
"I just read [the script] about an hour ago and I started crying reading the first page," Duchovny told Entertainment Weekly. "It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself."
Duchovny also confirmed that the new series will feature a mix of the standalone mysteries and the overarching mythology that ran throughout the original series. He also said he'd be open to multiple seasons of "The X-Files" going forward -- as long as they were on the shorter side.
The first of hopefully many seasons of the new "X-Files" will air on Fox on Sunday, January 24, 2016, when Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully continue their ongoing search for the truth. That debut date gives the hotly anticipated miniseries prime air time on Fox immediately after the NFC championship football game, which is expected to draw about 49.6 million viewers.
