Mario Kart re-enactment churns up real-life mall

We'd all love to play Mario Kart in real life. A handful of fans did exactly that, dressing as their favorite characters in this entertaining prank.

Nintendo's Mario Kart racing game has legions of loyal fans, but very few would dress up as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong and Yoshi and then zip around a London mall on tiny karts.

"The other day we got dressed up as all the Mario Kart characters and raced through Westfield Shopping Mall, on crazy carts, un-invited," Base 37 posted last week with video "Mario Kart Flashmob" on YouTube.

Considering that there's an actual mall level in the Wii version of Mario Kart, it's fun to see these fans speed around in their mini karts while avoiding obstacles like fountains, escalators and shoppers, with security guards chasing behind them.

The fans stay in character throughout the video, including a funny moment when the Mario cosplayer throws a banana at Yoshi, which of course causes him to spin out of control just like in the video game.

After the Mario Kart gang fully race through the mall, they head to the underground parking structure for more fun, which is fairly brave considering that real cars could have run them over.

Sadly, mall security nabs them in the end, but at least they made a cool video.
