Curious moose plays around with a friendly drone

The conflict between wildlife and drones enjoys a peaceful respite as a moose has fun goofing around with a drone.

Animals and drones don't usually get along. A sharp-eyed eagle conducted a midflight drone takedown earlier this year, showing no mercy in the process. A chimp said "enough is enough" and dispatched a drone with a tree branch. Kangaroos, known for their natural punching power, are also drone-intolerant. An upset kangaroo downed a drone that got too close.

It doesn't have to be like that. Drones and wildlife can get along. There's proof in the form of a video showing a playful moose encountering a drone. Both act like graceful ambassadors for their kind.

The drone approaches the moose, which looks up and seems fascinated by the flying interloper. The drone has some close encounters with the moose's nose, and there's plenty of curiosity on both sides and a pleasant ending as the moose strolls off into a stand of trees.

YouTube user Kolbjørn Hoseth Larssen uploaded the video in late September, but it took a few days to come to the attention of the drone- and animal-loving Internet. It comes with this simple description: "Moose finds my drone interesting. Filmed in Norway."

The video is enjoyable as a combination of a nature meditation, an exercise in smooth drone aerial photography and a window into one moose's seemingly gentle attitude. You still won't want to tangle with a moose in the wild, but it's a lovely view from a drone's distance.
